The remarks were made during a visit by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates. According to official reports, Xi noted that the current era requires nations to choose between paths of peace and war, or unity and confrontation.

Greater coordination and cooperation are needed as human society faces the choices of peace and war, as well as unity and confrontation.

The meeting takes place during a period of significant geopolitical friction in the Gulf region. Diplomatic efforts have recently stalled after high-stakes discussions between the United States and Iran failed to secure an agreement to terminate the weeks-long hostilities.
