Trade ministers gathered in Cameroon for critical World Trade Organization (WTO) reform negotiations are facing significant hurdles as deep divisions persist between major global powers. Diplomats report that the United States and India remain at an impasse, threatening progress during a period of heightened global trade volatility. The four-day summit in Yaounde comes at a time when the international trading system is grappling with tariff disputes and disruptions to energy prices and supply chains fueled by conflict in the Middle East.
There is a real commitment among ministers to reach an agreement on reforms, but there is a big elephant in the room blocking: India and the U.S.
