WTO Negotiates E-Commerce Tariff Moratorium Extension

Negotiators at the World Trade Organization (WTO) are working to bridge a significant divide between the United States and India regarding the extension of a global moratorium on e-commerce tariffs. The agreement, which prohibits countries from imposing duties on digital transmissions like streaming services and software downloads, is set to expire at the end of the month.
During high-level discussions in Cameroon, diplomats reported that India has signaled a potential shift in its position, suggesting it might accept a two-year extension of the ban. However, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has indicated that Washington is pushing for a permanent solution rather than a short-term renewal.
