Glencore refinery workers plan strike over pay dispute
Glencore refinery workers in Townsville plan a strike this Friday after failed pay talks. The union says action follows a year of unsuccessful negotiations.
Workers at a copper refinery in North Queensland, operated by Glencore plc, are preparing for industrial action following a breakdown in negotiations over pay and working conditions. The Australian Workers Union (AWU) announced on Wednesday that employees at the Townsville facility plan to walk off the job this Friday if a final bargaining session scheduled for Thursday does not resolve their concerns.
The labor dispute follows nearly a year of discussions that began in late March last year. The AWU stated that the company has failed to offer a wage increase that keeps pace with the rising cost of living in Australia.
