A severe winter storm has disrupted crude oil production in the United States
US, leading to significant market shifts and an increase in oil prices. The storm, which hit over the weekend, is estimated to have removed up to 2 million barrels per day, or about 15% of the US output, according to analysts and traders. This disruption caused crude and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from US Gulf Coast ports to fall to zero on Sunday, as reported by ship-tracking service Vortexa.
As a result, Brent crude futures rose to $67.68 a barrel, up 11 cents or 0.2%, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude increased to $62.58 a barrel, up 19 cents or 0.3% by 0725 GMT. Both benchmarks experienced a surge of approximately 3% on Tuesday, reflecting the market's immediate reaction to the supply constraints.
