Von der Leyen Calls for EU Energy Price Coordination
Ursula von der Leyen urged EU states to coordinate energy prices today. The move follows a 22 billion euro cost rise linked to the ongoing Iran conflict.
European Union member states are being urged to coordinate their energy pricing strategies as fossil fuel costs have risen by 22 billion euros since the start of the conflict in Iran. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Monday that collective action is necessary to address the financial burden on the bloc.
The Commission is exploring measures to synchronize the replenishment of Natural Gas storage across member states. This initiative aims to prevent multiple countries from entering the market simultaneously, which often triggers price spikes. Additionally, the EU plans to coordinate the release of Brent Crude Oil reserves to ensure the maximum possible impact on global supply and pricing while protecting the integrity of the single market.
