Vietnam Promotes Remote Work to Manage Fuel Shortages
Vietnam is encouraging remote work to save fuel as the conflict in Iran disrupts energy imports. The government also removed import tariffs to stabilize prices.
The trade ministry of Vietnam has urged local businesses to adopt work-from-home policies to mitigate fuel shortages caused by the conflict involving Iran. Government officials stated on Tuesday that the nation is among the most affected by supply disruptions resulting from the war involving the United States and Israel. With a high dependency on Middle Eastern energy, the country has seen domestic prices track the volatility of Brent Crude Oil.
Businesses need to encourage work-from-home when possible to reduce the need for travel and transportation.
Data from PETROLIMEX GAS JSC indicates that gasoline prices have climbed 32% since late last month, while diesel and kerosene have jumped 56% and 80%, respectively. In response to long queues at petrol stations in Hanoi, the ministry has warned against fuel hoarding and speculation. Prime Minister Pham Minh Minh has also reached out to leaders in Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates to secure crude oil and fuel supplies. To further ease the burden, import tariffs on fuels have been suspended until the end of April.
