Valero Partially Restarts Port Arthur Refinery Operations

Valero has partially restarted its Port Arthur refinery after the March 23 blast. One unit is running while repairs continue on a second unit that remains shut.

VALERO ENERGY CORP has initiated a partial restart of its 380,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, following an explosion and fire that occurred on March 23. According to sources familiar with the plant's operations, the 115,000-bpd AVU 147 crude distillation unit is currently back in service, while the larger 210,000-bpd AVU-146 unit remains shut down for repairs.
