The United States Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, indicated on Tuesday that there is potential for further consolidation within the domestic airline industry, though he emphasized that any proposed deals would be subject to rigorous scrutiny regarding their impact on consumers. Speaking on CNBC, Duffy noted that while he sees room for mergers, larger carriers would likely be required to divest certain assets to gain regulatory approval.
If there was a merger between some of the larger airlines, they would have to peel off some of their assets.
