USTR Says China Involvement in Iran Complicates Relations
USTR Jamieson Greer says Chinese involvement in Iran against U.S. interests would complicate ties. Trump is set to meet with Xi Jinping next month for talks.
The United States is actively pursuing a stable diplomatic and economic relationship with China, according to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. However, Greer cautioned that specific geopolitical alignments, particularly those involving Iran, could create significant friction between the two global powers.
\"If Beijing is going to be involved with Iran in a way that goes against U.S. interests, that would complicate matters.\"

Speaking in an interview with CNBC, Greer noted that while expectations are high for a productive meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled for next month, deep-seated challenges remain. The administration continues to monitor how Beijing's foreign policy decisions align or conflict with American strategic priorities.
The USTR emphasized that a single meeting is unlikely to resolve every point of contention. The ongoing dialogue serves as a platform to manage a complex relationship where economic interests often intersect with sensitive national security concerns.
