Single-family homebuilding in the United States declined in January as harsh winter weather disrupted construction activity. According to the Commerce Department's Census Bureau, single-family housing starts, which represent the core of the residential market, fell 2.8% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 935,000 units. This data follows a downward revision for December, which showed starts at a rate of 962,000 units rather than the previously reported 981,000.
