NHTSA Probes 115000 Rivian EVs Over Rear Toe Link Issue
The NHTSA opened a preliminary probe into 114,922 Rivian R1S and R1T vehicles following reports of rear toe link separations. While Rivian maintains that its internal data shows the joints are operating as intended, the agency is evaluating potential safety risks and previous repair procedures.
Rivian Automotive Inc-A faces a preliminary probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) covering 114,922 vehicles over rear toe link failures. The investigation targets the R1S and R1T electric models. This regulatory scrutiny follows a similar recall of 20,000 units in January involving the same component.
### Safety Concerns and Road Incidents The NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation launched the evaluation after receiving two owner reports of left rear toe links separating during operation, allegedly causing vehicles to swerve across multiple traffic lanes. One reported incident led to a collision involving an adjacent vehicle and a roadside barrier.
