USPS proposes temporary 8 percent hike for priority mail
The US Postal Service is seeking approval for a temporary 8 percent price hike on package deliveries. The move aims to offset rising transportation fuel costs.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced it is seeking approval for a temporary 8% price increase for priority mail and package deliveries to address rising transportation fuel costs. The proposed hike, which would take effect on April 26, requires authorization from the Postal Regulatory Commission. According to the USPS, the surcharge is intended to provide a bridge to a permanent pricing mechanism that reflects market conditions for competitive products, especially as the agency warns it could run out of cash as early as October. This specific price adjustment will not affect the cost of first-class stamps.
