Lawmakers in the United States are voicing strong opposition to a potential federal rescue of the bankrupt budget carrier Spirit Airlines. The pushback comes following reports that the administration of President Donald Trump is considering a deal that could involve up to $500 million in government-backed financing to assist the airline in exiting its second bankruptcy restructuring since 2025.
