US Energy Secretary Chris Wright issued a formal ultimatum to the International Energy Agency (IEA), demanding the organization remove its support for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions goals within one year. Speaking at the IEA biennial meeting, Wright stated that if the agency does not comply with this request, the United States will withdraw its membership from the international body. This move follows the policy direction of President Donald Trump and places significant pressure on the agency’s leadership, including Executive Director Fatih Birol.
