US Diesel Prices Reach Record High of $5.52 per Gallon
US diesel prices hit a record $5.52 per gallon on Monday amid the Middle East conflict. The surge is pressuring small firms and may drive up freight rates.
The trucking industry in the United States is grappling with record-high diesel prices as the conflict involving Iran and Israel disrupts global energy markets. National average retail prices for diesel have climbed to $5.52 per gallon, surpassing the previous peak set during the 2022 energy crisis. This surge is largely attributed to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route, which has driven up the cost of West Texas Oil and Brent Crude Oil.
Data provided by SAMSARA INC-CL A indicates that current fuel expenditures have exceeded the $5.50 record established in June 2022, shortly after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine. The current price environment is placing immense pressure on the more than 3 million truckers responsible for moving approximately 75% of the nation's freight.
