US Crypto Exchanges Prepare for Perpetual Futures Launch
Crypto exchanges are preparing to launch perpetual futures in the US as regulators signal approval. Kraken and Coinbase lead the push into the risky market.
Major cryptocurrency exchanges are positioning themselves to capture a share of the derivatives market in the United States as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) signals a potential shift toward allowing perpetual futures. This popular but high-risk product has historically been restricted to offshore platforms, but recent industry moves suggest a significant transition is underway.
Kraken's parent company recently announced its acquisition of the crypto derivatives platform Bitnomial for a sum of up to $550 million. This strategic move provides Kraken with an established infrastructure to offer perpetual futures directly to domestic users, bypassing the hurdles of building a platform from the ground up.
