UPS opens $100 million Taiwan hub for chip industry
UPS opened a $100 million Taiwan logistics hub on Wednesday to serve the tech sector. The facility supports chip leaders like TSMC and Applied Materials.
United Parcel Service, Inc. has inaugurated a new $100 million logistics hub in Taiwan, marking its largest facility in the Asia-Pacific region. The investment is aimed at meeting the surging demand from the technology sector, particularly for advanced semiconductors that power artificial intelligence applications. Located in Taoyuan, the center is situated near the island's primary international airport to facilitate rapid global distribution.
The facility will serve as a strategic hub for major industry players, including Applied Materials, Inc., a leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer from the United States, which will use the site as a regional distribution center. Lauren Zhao, president of UPS Asia Pacific Supply Chain Solutions and Freight Forwarding, noted that high-tech components currently comprise approximately 80% of the freight handled at the new facility.

"Everyone knows that Taiwans semiconductor industry is the most advanced in the world, and the manufacturing processes related to the semiconductor industry are also where Taiwan is leading the world."
While the current operations are focused on Taoyuan, the company is exploring further expansion to support the growing semiconductor ecosystem in the southern part of the island. Sam Hung, managing director for Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, indicated that the company is considering adding flights to Kaohsiung. This potential expansion is driven by customer demand as the region develops into a significant semiconductor cluster, including the construction of a major new manufacturing plant by the world's largest contract chipmaker.
