A targeted investment of $6 billion into cash payments and energy subsidies could prevent 32 million people from falling into poverty due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Administrator Alexander De Croo, the former prime minister of Belgium, stated that while the conflict has reversed decades of development gains, a relatively small and strategic financial intervention could mitigate the worst economic impacts.
