Shop price inflation in the United Kingdom rose to 1.2% in May as energy costs and supply chain disruptions pressured retailers. The figure climbed from a 1.0% increase in April, according to data from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). Broader consumer price inflation, which fell to 2.8% in April, is projected to rise again to around 4% due to the energy price shock.

### Supply Chain Pressures Offset Cooling Food Prices While overall shop prices accelerated, food inflation slowed to 2.7% in May from 3.1% the previous month. This represents the lowest level for food price growth in a year. However, gains in furniture and health and beauty products drove the headline index higher.
