Retail sales in the United Kingdom have experienced their sharpest decline since the height of the pandemic in early 2020, according to the latest data from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI). The organization's monthly gauge of annual sales volumes dropped to -52 in March, a significant fall from the -43 recorded in February. This downturn marks the most severe contraction since April 2020, when the onset of COVID-19 lockdowns shuttered non-essential shops across the country.
