Retail sales in the United Kingdom experienced an unexpected surge in March as motorists rushed to fill their tanks following the outbreak of conflict in Iran. Official data released on Friday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that fuel sales volumes jumped by 6.1% over the month, marking the largest increase since early 2016, excluding the pandemic period.
