UK March car registrations reach highest level since 2019
British car registrations rose to over 380,000 units last month. However, industry leaders warn that the Iran conflict could impact future consumer costs.
The United Kingdom automotive market saw a robust increase in new car registrations this March, marking the industry's strongest performance for the month since 2019. Data released on Tuesday by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that registrations rose by nearly 7% year-on-year to reach a total of 380,627 units. While March is traditionally the most active month for car sales, industry experts warn that the figures may not fully reflect the current economic climate.
Much of the growth recorded in March is attributed to the fulfillment of orders placed before the onset of the crisis in Iran. SMMT Chief Mike Hawes expressed caution regarding the sustainability of this trend, noting that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East threaten to increase the cost of living and undermine consumer confidence across the country.
