UK Inflation May Reach 3 Percent on Higher Energy Costs
OBR official David Miles says UK inflation could reach 3 percent by year-end if energy prices hold. This rate is higher than previous fiscal forecasts.
The inflation rate in the United Kingdom could reach approximately 3% by the end of 2026 if energy prices remain at their current levels, according to a senior official from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR). This projection is higher than the 2% rate previously assumed by the nation's fiscal monitors.

David Miles, a member of the OBR’s Budget Responsibility Committee, shared these insights with lawmakers on Tuesday. He explained that while the potential for higher inflation is significant, the current economic environment has not yet reached the scale of volatility witnessed following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
\"Material, significant, as yet not on the same scale as we experienced after the Russian invasion of Ukraine,\"
Miles emphasized that the persistence of energy costs will be a deciding factor in whether the 3% figure becomes a reality. The OBR continues to monitor global market trends to refine its fiscal forecasts for the coming years.
