UK Consumer Sentiment Hits Lowest Level Since 2024
British households reported a decline in economic confidence this month as inflation fears grew. The BRC survey found sentiment at its lowest point since 2024.
Consumer sentiment in the United Kingdom has dropped to its lowest level in more than two years as households face growing economic uncertainty. According to the latest survey from the British Retail Consortium (BRC), expectations for both personal finances and the broader economy have weakened significantly, driven by fears that conflict in the Middle East will lead to higher inflation.
The BRC reported that the public's outlook on the economy for the next three months fell to -53 in March, a sharp decline from -30 in February. Assessments of personal financial prospects also saw a downturn, sliding to -17 from -6. These figures represent the weakest readings since the survey's inception in early 2024.
