Uber opens London robotaxi sign-ups for Wayve launch
Uber has opened registration for users to experience London's first autonomous taxi services powered by British startup Wayve. The service will utilize Ford Mustang Mach-e vehicles with safety operators and is expected to launch in the coming months pending final regulatory approval.
Uber opened sign-ups Monday for London’s first AI-powered robotaxi service, which is launching in partnership with British startup Wayve. The service expands a global network that has already completed millions of autonomous trips across more than 30 corporate partnerships. This rollout establishes a commercial foundation for AI-driven transport in one of the world's most complex urban environments.
### London Becomes a Hub for Autonomous Innovation The service will integrate into the existing Uber app, allowing users to select autonomous rides as regular UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort options. While a trained operator will remain behind the wheel to monitor the system, the vehicle will navigate from pick-up to drop-off without human intervention. Wayve VP of commercial and operations Kaity Fischer said this marks the first time the general public can hail an autonomous vehicle in the United Kingdom.
