U.S. Oil Prices Retreat as Fuel Inventories Rise Above Market Expectations

U.S. crude and gasoline stocks rose significantly above forecasts last week. This inventory surge weighed on prices despite geopolitical peace negotiations.

洞察:
Global oil prices experienced a decline on January 22 as market participants reacted to a significant increase in fuel inventories within the United States USUS. Brent Crude Oil fell by 28 cents, or 0.43 percent, to $64.96 a barrel at 0749 GMT. At the same time, West Texas Intermediate , also known as WTI Crude Oil, for March delivery dropped 19 cents, or 0.31 percent, to $60.43 a barrel. These losses followed a period of growth earlier in the week where Brent Crude Oiland WTI Crude Oil contracts rose more than 0.4 percent on January 21, continuing a trend from a 1.5 percent increase on January 20.
According to data from the American Petroleum Institute (API), crude stocks in the United Statesincreased by 3.04 million barrels in the week ended January 16. This figure was considerably higher than the 1.1 million barrel increase that had been forecast by eight analysts polled by Reuters. The reports also indicated that gasoline inventories rose by 6.21 million barrels, while distillate inventories fell by 33,000 barrels. Given the current oversupplied conditions in the global market, which includes production dynamics from the OPEC+ group, high inventories have continued to limit further price gains, although analysts have noted that prices should hold around $60 a barrel under these conditions.
