U.S. companies express interest in Congo mining assets
U.S. companies are eyeing Congolese mining assets including the Rubaya coltan mine. Any investments must align with Washington-led peace efforts in the region.
The United States is intensifying its efforts to secure critical mineral supplies by exploring significant investment opportunities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A senior State Department official indicated that American companies are showing substantial interest in a range of mining assets, including the strategic Rubaya area. This initiative is part of a broader minerals partnership designed to bolster supply chain security and reduce global reliance on China.
Earlier this year, the Congolese government provided Washington with a list of strategic assets for consideration, which includes projects focused on manganese, Copper, Gold, and lithium. The U.S. government is currently soliciting feedback from the private sector regarding these opportunities, though specific company names have not yet been disclosed.
