Futures for the primary stock index in Canada moved slightly higher on Friday morning, positioning the benchmark for its fourth consecutive weekly gain. June futures for the S&P/TSX index were up 0.15% as of 5:52 a.m. ET, buoyed by optimism regarding a potential de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

The geopolitical outlook improved following statements from the United States regarding a possible end to the war involving Iran. International efforts have focused on a proposed 10-day truce between Lebanon and Israel. While the TSX retreated from a six-week high on Thursday due to concerns over high energy costs, the prospect of a diplomatic resolution has helped the benchmark maintain its weekly momentum.

The energy sector may face pressure as West Texas Oil prices fell by more than 3% on hopes that a peace deal would end shipping disruptions in the Gulf. Meanwhile, in the foreign exchange markets, the USD/CAD remains under observation as investors weigh the impact of shifting commodity prices on the Canadian dollar.

Resource-heavy sectors are also reacting to mixed signals from the metals market. Gold prices held steady, while Silver saw slight gains. Conversely, Copper prices eased. Investors are now turning their attention to corporate earnings in both Canada and the U.S. to assess how companies are managing the economic headwinds linked to the conflict.
