TSX Futures Slip as Oil Prices Rise on Mideast Conflict
TSX futures fell Thursday as Middle East tensions pushed oil prices higher. Rising energy costs stoked inflation fears while tech stocks faced selling pressure.
Futures for the primary stock index in Canada declined on Thursday as heightened geopolitical friction in the Middle East impacted investor sentiment and pushed crude prices upward, intensifying concerns over global inflation. By early morning, S&P/TSX composite index futures had slipped 0.1%, a move mirrored by futures for major indices in the United States.
Crude oil prices saw a significant jump as Iran increased its attacks on energy and transport infrastructure across the region. These actions have raised fears of a widening conflict involving Israel, which could further disrupt energy supplies and sustain high inflation. Critical shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, remain under significant pressure.
