The main stock index in Canada climbed to a five-week peak on Friday, buoyed by domestic employment data and growing optimism regarding potential diplomatic progress in the Middle East. Resource and technology equities led the rally as the S&P/TSX Composite Index finished up 218.05 points, or 0.7%, at 33,695.76. This marked the highest close for the index since early March and secured a 1.8% gain for the week, representing its third consecutive weekly advance.
