Trump Opposes Merger Between United and American Airlines
President Trump stated on Tuesday he opposes a merger between United and American Airlines. He noted both are doing well while supporting a Spirit buyout.
President Donald Trump of the United States stated in a CNBC interview on Tuesday that he opposes a potential merger between UNITED AIRLINES HOLDINGS INC and AMERICAN AIRLINES GROUP INC. While the President remarked that he does not mind airline mergers in general, he specifically expressed a dislike for a combination of these two major carriers. > "I don't mind mergers, but I don't like having them merge." Trump added that he would be supportive of an acquisition of Spirit Airlines, which is currently in bankruptcy, noting that both United and American are performing well as independent entities. The President's comments follow reports that United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby pitched the merger during a meeting with Trump in late February. Despite the proposal, American Airlines clarified on Friday that it has no interest in merging with United. > "I know the United people, they're doing very well."
