TotalEnergies delivers stable fourth quarter results despite falling oil prices and industry headwinds

TotalEnergies matched its prior year performance in the final quarter of 2025 despite lower crude prices. Resilience was driven by high refining margins.

TotalEnergies SE announced on Tuesday that its fourth-quarter 2025 financial results remained in line with the previous year, demonstrating significant operational resilience despite a challenging environment for the global energy industry. Following the release of the trading statement, shares of the French energy giant rose 0.73% to 56.54 euros in morning trading. This performance notably outperformed the broader European energy sector, which saw a decline of 1.2% during the same period.
A primary driver of these results was a dramatic surge in the European refining margin marker, which rose to $85.7 per metric ton in the fourth quarter. This represents a 231% increase from a year earlier. Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanne patrick pouyannehad previously indicated in October that he expected refining margins in Europe to rise as a consequence of US USUSsanctions and EU EUEUrestrictions on energy exports from RU RURU, which created supply constraints across the continent.
