TSX Opens Little Changed as Investors Weigh US-Iran Truce
Canada's main stock index opened flat Thursday as a fragile U.S.-Iran truce tempered sentiment. Rising oil prices boosted energy stocks to offset the caution.
The main stock market index in Canada opened with little change on Thursday morning as investors monitored the stability of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran. This geopolitical tension has tempered risk appetite, counterbalancing the positive impact of rising energy prices. At 09:33 a.m. ET, the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX Composite Index reached 33,640.61 points, a gain of 0.05%. The energy sector provided a lift to the index as prices for Brent Crude Oil and West Texas Oil moved higher. While these gains in the oil market offered support, the broader market remained flat as the fragile international situation continued to influence investor sentiment.
