Thungela Resources reports annual loss on lower coal prices
South African coal exporter Thungela Resources reported a full-year headline loss of 6.47 rand per share on Monday. This follows a drop in global coal prices.
Thungela Resources Limited has reported a full-year loss for the period ending December 31, 2025, as the company grappled with a significant downturn in global coal prices. The South Africa-based thermal coal exporter recorded a headline loss per share of 6.47 rand ($0.3752), representing a sharp decline from the headline earnings per share of 25.59 rand reported in the previous fiscal year. The financial results reflect the challenging market conditions faced by the mining sector over the past twelve months. Despite maintaining its position as a key exporter, the company's bottom line was heavily impacted by the cooling of thermal coal markets, which had previously reached record highs. The shift into negative territory underscores the sensitivity of the collier's earnings to international price benchmarks. Investors and analysts had been monitoring the impact of price normalization following the supply chain disruptions and energy security concerns that characterized the preceding periods.
