Seafarers Stranded in Persian Gulf as Iran War Continues
Indian mariners face food shortages and security risks while stuck at Iranian ports. India has repatriated 2680 citizens as naval blockades hinder safe passage.
Thousands of mariners from India and other nations remain stranded in and around the Strait of Hormuz as regional conflict involving Iran disrupts one of the world's most critical maritime trade routes. Seafarers report surviving on limited rations and living in constant fear as they navigate the fallout of military blockades and aerial attacks.
Ankit Yadav, a mariner in his early 30s, has been confined to a vessel at an inland Iranian port for over two weeks. His ship, which typically carries steel between Iran, Kuwait, and Oman, has been unable to secure passage due to a blockade involving the United States Navy. Yadav noted that his employer has refused to facilitate a sign-off due to the high cost of airfare from the conflict zone.
