Sterling steady as traders weigh Iran war and UK inflation
The pound held steady on Wednesday as traders weighed the Iran conflict and UK inflation data. Markets now anticipate a potential April interest rate hike.
The British pound remained stable on Wednesday as market participants monitored escalating tensions in the Middle East and efforts to resolve the conflict involving Iran. The GBP/USD pair was last trading near $1.3402, reflecting a cautious stance among investors as they assessed the potential economic impact of the hostilities.
Geopolitical uncertainty intensified as Israel and Iran exchanged airstrikes. This development followed a rejection by the Iranian military of claims made by the United States regarding direct negotiations to resolve the conflict. Amidst these tensions, energy markets saw a decline, with Brent Crude Oil futures dropping approximately 5.4% to trade around $95.82 per barrel.
