Stellantis to Launch 15,000 Euro Small Electric Vehicle
Stellantis plans to launch a low-cost category of electric vehicles starting in 2028 at its Pomigliano dArco plant in Italy. The new E-Car models aim to revive the entry-level segment and improve production capacity while addressing the demand for affordable zero-emission mobility across Europe.
STELLANTIS NV will launch a €15,000 ($17,500) small electric vehicle in 2028 to revive the shrinking European entry-level car segment. Production of the compact "E-Car" will begin at the Pomigliano d'Arco plant in Italy. The move targets a market abandoned by manufacturers seeking higher margins in larger SUVs and mid-sized vehicles.
### Reviving the Entry-Level Segment Automakers have pivoted away from small cars as electrification and safety regulations increased production costs. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said the E-Car aims to capture demand for stylish, European-made vehicles across multiple brands. The project draws inspiration from the "kei car" model in Japan, which uses size and engine restrictions to lower tax and insurance costs.
