STATE STREET CORP reported a rise in its first-quarter profit on Friday, as market volatility spurred increased client activity and fee revenue for the custody bank. Following the report, shares of the firm rose 1.5% in premarket trading. Based in the United States, the Boston-headquartered firm serves a client base of institutional investors, including pension funds and asset managers. Global markets have recently experienced significant fluctuations, driven by geopolitical tensions involving Iran and a broad selloff in software stocks linked to artificial intelligence. These conditions prompted many investors to rebalance their portfolios, increasing activity for the bank. > Looking ahead, how the macro and geopolitical environment will evolve is uncertain. For the three months ending March 31, the company posted a net income of $764 million, or $2.49 per share. This marks an improvement over the $644 million, or $2.04 per share, reported during the same period in the previous year. Total revenue for the quarter rose 16% to $3.8 billion, fueled by a 15% increase in total fee revenue and a 17% gain in net interest income. As of the end of March, assets under custody and administration reached $54.52 trillion, a 17% increase year-over-year. Assets under management were reported at $5.62 trillion. These robust financial results follow a similar trend seen at BANK OF NEW YORK MELLON CORP, which also reported a jump in its first-quarter profit earlier this week.
