Spain seeks national say in EU telecom supplier bans
Spain supports strengthening the European Cybersecurity Act but insists member states must retain the power to bar specific foreign suppliers from infrastructure. The government argues that classification of high-risk providers should remain within a framework that respects national sovereignty.
Spain is demanding that European Union member states retain the power to block foreign telecommunications providers under proposed revisions to the Cybersecurity Act. The stance complicates Brussels' efforts to centralize the exclusion of high-risk vendors across the bloc.

This plan specifically targets firms from China, including Huawei. While Spain supports a stronger security framework, the ministry spokesperson told Reuters that the issue touches on national sovereignty as defined by EU treaties.
