South Africa grants Eskom larger electricity price increases after calculation errors

South Africa's regulator has approved larger electricity rate hikes for Eskom after correcting errors. The new tariffs aim to balance utility sustainability.

South Africa ZAZA's energy regulator, Nersa, has announced a significant upward revision to the electricity tariff increases granted to Eskom for the next two financial years. The regulator admitted to errors in its earlier calculations, leading to a decision that will see tariffs rise by 8.76% starting in April this year and 8.83% in April 2027. These figures represent a substantial increase from the previously approved rates of 5.36% and 6.19%, respectively.
