Singapore Hedge Fund FengHe to Expand into Hong Kong
Singapore-based FengHe Fund Management will open a Hong Kong office later this year to expand its footprint. The firm currently manages nine billion dollars.
The Singapore-based hedge fund FengHe Fund Management is expanding its regional footprint with the planned opening of a new office in Hong Kong in the second half of 2026. The firm, which manages approximately $9 billion in assets, has secured office space at Two International Finance Centre and is currently in the process of applying for a local asset management license. CEO Kwek Hyen Yong noted that the firm's assets more than doubled over the past year, bucking an industry trend where inflows have been largely concentrated in quant-driven and multi-manager funds.
FengHe Fund Management operates a flagship Asia Fund that primarily invests in stocks in Japan, South Korea, and Greater China. The fund was up 14.2% year-to-date as of March 16, after a 17.8% gain in the first two months of the year was tempered by a 3.5% decline following market turmoil linked to the United States-Israel war on Iran. The fund previously saw returns of 27.3% in 2025 and 10.3% in 2024.
A number of financial firms have recently expanded in Hong Kong, including Jane Street and Point72 Asset Management, drawn by the city's investment talent and market recovery. While the firm also has a representative office in Tokyo, Kwek emphasized that the expansion is primarily about talent acquisition rather than market conditions.
"As we continue to hire across Asia, we aim to provide greater flexibility to our existing team members and new joiners who prefer to be based in their chosen cities."
The firm will begin its operations in the city with a small core team and may increase headcount in the coming years. FengHe Fund Management was co-founded in 2009 by veteran investor Matt Hu and Wu Jiong, an angel investor and former chief technology officer at Alibaba Group Holding Limited.
