Singapore GasCo Secures Spot LNG to Offset Shortfalls
GasCo secured spot cargoes from Australia and Mozambique to offset supply gaps. The firm plans to seek long-term supply deals despite current market volatility.
Singapore is taking proactive steps to safeguard its energy supply as geopolitical tensions continue to disrupt global markets. The state gas buyer, GasCo, has secured additional spot cargoes of Natural Gas to mitigate supply shortfalls resulting from the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The city-state, which relies on gas for 95% of its electricity generation, imported nearly 6 million tons of liquefied natural gas last year. While Qatar has traditionally supplied nearly half of these requirements, recent volatility and infrastructure damage have necessitated a diversification of supply sources.
