SGannounced on 24 January 2026 that the government will invest more than S$1 billion in public artificial intelligence research through 2030. This multi-year commitment is intended to strengthen national AI capabilities and global competitiveness by targeting priority research areas. The investment will specifically focus on developing responsible and resource-efficient AI, cultivating talent from the pre-university level to the faculty level, and supporting broader industry adoption and application of AI technologies.
This initiative follows previous significant government commitments to the technology sector. In 2024, SGset aside S$500 million for high-performance computer resources to provide necessary AI infrastructure. Additionally, the government has already committed more than S$500 million to AI research and development through AI Singapore. These sustained investments signal a long-term policy prioritization of artificial intelligence as a national strategic capability.
