The International Monetary Fund (IMF) took the step to freeze an IMF $1.8 billion lending programme after the current government discovered billions of dollars in borrowing that had been misreported by the previous administration. These ongoing talks are expected to determine the country’s access to external financing and its capacity to meet its upcoming financial obligations.
