India regulator plans faster alternative fund approvals
SEBI proposed a green channel to speed up capital deployment for private funds. Regular schemes can launch ten days after filing if SEBI has no objections.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) proposed a "green channel" mechanism on Monday to accelerate capital deployment for alternative investment funds (AIFs). The proposal follows a 135% surge in the number of Indian funds over the last five years. The mechanism allows regular AIF schemes to launch in 10 working days after filing, unless SEBI raises objections.
### Accelerating the Launch Timeline Under the new proposal, regular AIF schemes could launch just 10 working days after filing via a merchant banker. This timeline applies unless SEBI raises specific objections during the window. The regulator noted that the previous review process was time-consuming and hindered efficient capital deployment.
