Santander on track for 2026 targets after Q1 growth
Executive Chair Ana Botin says the bank is meeting its profitability goals after a record 2025. Revenue and customer numbers rose in the first quarter.
Banco Santander, S.A. announced on Friday that the financial institution remains on track to achieve its full-year revenue and profitability goals for 2026. This outlook follows a period of sustained customer acquisition throughout the first quarter within Spain and its international markets.
The banking group previously indicated in February that it is aiming for higher profits than the record 14.1 billion euros reported in 2025. Management expects revenue growth to reach mid-single digits in constant euros, driven by fee income expanding at a faster pace than net interest income.
Executive Chair Ana Botin highlighted the bank's momentum in a statement prepared for the annual shareholders meeting.
For the first quarter of 2026, we have continued the positive trends of previous years, growing both our customer base and revenue, while costs are expected to decline in constant euros year-on-year.

The bank's strategy focuses on maintaining efficiency while expanding its global footprint. The anticipated decline in costs in constant euros reflects ongoing efforts to streamline operations even as the customer base expands.
