Gazprom Neft signs agreement to sell controlling stake in Serbian oil refiner NIS to Hungarian MOL

Hungary's MOL has signed a binding deal to acquire a 56.16 percent stake in NIS from Gazprom Neft. The move seeks to restart Serbia's sole oil refinery.

Russia RURUbased Gazprom Neft has signed a binding agreement to sell its 56.16 percent controlling stake in the Serbian RSRSoil refiner NIS to MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Plc . MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Plcconfirmed the binding agreement in a formal statement on January 19, 2026, while Gazprom Neft confirmed it has also signed an agreement of intent with the Hungarian HUHUfirm. The transaction seeks to restart the Pancevo refinery, which is the sole refinery in Serbiaand is operated by NIS. The facility has been offline since October 2024 after the U.S. USUS Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on the Russian-owned entity.
