Russia offers China more energy ahead of Putin state visit
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says Russia will boost energy supplies to China. This comes ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s expected visit in May.
Russia has announced its readiness to increase energy supplies to China ahead of an official visit by President Vladimir Putin expected later this spring. Speaking at a news conference in Beijing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Moscow is prepared to bolster its exports of key resources, including Brent Crude Oil and Natural Gas, to support the growing energy needs of its neighbor. During the visit, Lavrov met with President Xi Jinping, who reaffirmed the strong ties between the two nations. Xi emphasized that the two powers must continue to trust and support one another while deepening strategic cooperation and defending mutual interests. The upcoming visit by Putin is anticipated to take place in the first half of the year, with local reports indicating it may occur during the week of May 18. > Russia can, of course, make up for the resource shortfall facing both China and other countries that are interested in working with us on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. Lavrov also noted that Russia is well-positioned to assist countries impacted by supply disruptions stemming from the crisis in the Middle East. He stated that both Moscow and Beijing have the necessary resources to maintain energy stability and resist efforts by the United States to influence global markets through external conflicts.
