Rising Gas Prices Impact Republican Congressional Majority
Rising gas prices following the Iran conflict create political hurdles for Republicans. President Trump considers oil reserve releases to lower fuel costs.
President Donald Trump’s recent assertions regarding falling energy costs have been challenged by a sharp rise in fuel prices following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East. Just weeks after his State of the Union address, gasoline prices have climbed by nearly 60 cents per gallon, a direct consequence of a regional war initiated when the United States and Israel launched air strikes against Iran on February 28. This burgeoning energy crisis is creating a significant political challenge for the Republican party, as its narrow majority in Congress appears increasingly vulnerable ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
